Juan Escudero
Bilbao, Espagne. 1966
Born in Bilbao, Spain, in 1966, Juan Escudero graduated in Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country. Initially a painter, he has devoted himself exclusively to engraving since 2017. His work reflects his emphasis on capturing a kind of awareness of the present through a meticulous artistic process in which irregularity is valued. All marks are visible with no corrections allowed, if an irregularity occurs, it is transmitted to the next line. Escudero is not interested in representing figuratively, but rather to activate a process. His drawings refer to a kind of graphic automatism and echo the natural world. His exhibition "Mundaka" at Pigment Gallery Paris, gathers ten of his artworks that all appreciate imprecision, carry a fascination for repetition, and allow for unpredictability concerning the result. The artist's accumulation of lines signifies the passage of time and brings us to acknowledge the present moment.
